2026 NARC Annual Meeting

Friday, June 12th at 3:00 pm (PST) – Junction City, Oregon

Meeting was officially called to order at 3:00 pm by Sonya Harrigfeld-Jackson. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and then we had a moment of silence.

A Welcome and introduction of Officers was given

Sonya Harrigfeld-Jackson – President

Joel Harris – 1st Vice President

Mitch Brown – 2nd Vice President

Paul Hanson – 3rd Vice President

Kyle Broussard – Secretary/Treasurer


Quorum was reached. No need for roll call. The minutes of the previous Annual Meeting were published online by Retriever News and made available to membership. Previous Minutes approved.


Kyle gave financials for the NARC club. Charitable donations are down because a check was written a little late, but it will show up next year. Key points:

Assets: $331,139
Liabilities: $6,655
Members' Equity: $324,484
Increase in Equity: $4,016
Cash and CDs: $310,139

Club remains financially sound despite increased field trial expenses.

Motion to accept the financial statements as presented. Approved.

Next business was New Clubs – Membership applications from the Yooper Retriever Club of Michigan and the Wind River Retriever Club of Wyoming.

The Board has reviewed these applications and recommends their acceptance into the National Amateur Retriever Club. Motion to accept. Approved.


Introduction of Elected Slate of 2027 Club Officers (to take office August 2026)
        President: Joel Harris
        1st Vice President: Mitch Brown
        2nd Vice President: Paul Hanson
        3rd Vice President: Mike Griffin
        Secretary/Treasurer: Steve Roegiers

Mike Griffin gave recognition to Sonya Harrigfeld-Jackson and Kyle Broussard for their service and leadership leading up to this National. We had an amazing set up week!

Sonya has done a wonderful job! Gifts were given (a Wrought Iron Sign, Quilt and Lazy Susan with NARC Logo)

Thanks next went to Kyle Broussard for all of his work as Secretary/Treasurer.

Julie Cole and Charlene & Chester Koeth were recognized with the Trial Dedication.


Mike Griffin introduced  the 2026 NARC Judges and gave them gifts.

Committee Chairs were recognized and given a standing ovation.

An announcement was made that Social Hour will follow this meeting instead of a cocktail party.


2027 National Amateur Event Details Given:
Location: Ronan, Montana
Dates: June 12-19, 2027
Headquarters: Red Lion Hotel

Next Kenny Trott of the PRTA was recognized. PRTA land grants:
        $141,000 in the last 10 years of land grants
        $5,700 Retriever Hall of Fame
        $10,000 Workers Parties

Dr. Wayne Jensen of the AKC Canine Health Foundation: 80 million in grants over the past 30 years. Between 2020-2025 every year 3.2 million new grants funded residency programs for dogs.
Funded with donations from clubs and individuals 2020-2025 there was 4.4 million
From retriever related organizations there was 3.1 million. Spread the word to raise more money for CHF to help fund research!

Sara Shull - Retrievers Forever Foundation. Donations - Randy Spangler encouraged them to get a tax # for tax deductible donations. They help clubs, supplement Canine Health for Retrievers, Grounds, Facilities, Improvements of Grounds and so much more!

AKC Representative Russ Reavis will be here at the NARC all week. The number of events has pretty much stayed the same year over year.

    NOTE: There will be no caravan

Trial Procedures Given:

  • 1st 25 to View the Line and then the next 25 -  then the balance. Bibs are required.
  • Quiet in the field and the gallery is requested. No distractions.
  • 2 Test Dogs will run, then 20 running dogs, 1st Gun Change
  • 22 Running Dogs and then a Gun Change from there out. 

 Trial instructions were given for no birds: 
            • first no bird wait 6 dogs and you will be 7th to run. 
            • 2nd no bird wait 6 dogs you’ll be the 7th to run
            • 3rd no bird you move to the end.

3 Live gunners & 1 thrower at Pheasant Station
2 Live gunners & 1 thrower for Ducks

  • Dogs on the mat for blinds. Handler on the mat for marks.
  • Creeping - if excessive reheel.
  • Only Judges and Head Marshal under the Judges tent
  • 3 Holding blinds - 5 if there is a quick blind
  • Callbacks will be given on the blog
  • There will be shade and pools before and after the dogs run
  • If there is and extended hunt and a dog appears distressed - handlers will be asked to pick-up
  • Vet will help decide if we need to stop for the day due to heat.

The starting dog was selected with a bumper, from a large pile of bumpers with all of the #s on them.
